Part 1 of a 3-day workshop (9/29, 10/6, 10/13). The Great American Songbook is a collection of tunes written from 1930Ð1950 and is a vital part of the repertoire of jazz musicians. There are also many songs written after 1950 that qualify as standards. In this workshop weÕll explore the music of several different composers and lyricists, and songs written after 1950. WeÕll also listen to how some jazz greats have interpreted these songs and get ideas for our own arrangements. Students will be provided with 10 lead sheets for songs including practice-backing tracks. Expect lots of singing for all 3 weeks! A warm, charismatic stage performer and accomplished musician, Maye Cavallaro has traveled extensively in Japan and the U.S., both performing and teaching. She has released several CDs as a leader and has been a favorite vocal instructor at the Jazzschool for many years.
