Native Venezuelan Maria Marquez is a truly unique talent – a singer, composer, arranger, educator and producer – “gracefully poised between jazz and world music.” Her vocal sound and expression are reminiscent of those of French cabaret singer Edith Piaf and American jazz singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone – rich and soulful, haunting and colorful.
