The 17-piece Morchestra, led by arranger, composer and guitarist Tony Corman, covers a lot of ground, literally and figuratively. The repertoire ranges from fresh takes on familiar tunes (“Pink Panther” as a manic mambo) to modern jazz classics (“Syeeda's Song Flute”: Coltrane meets Bernstein) to Corman originals such as “Mac's Mood”, a “Li'l Darling” style homage to the great swing bandleader Hal McIntyre. This time out, the band is joined by vocalist Ed Reed, premiering a set of new charts, written to showcase his romantic stylings.
