This workshop presents ideas for creating crossover dialogue between jazz and raga styles. Questions on the process, learning the fundamentals of what the systems of raga-based music and jazz have in common, and how one can approach finding their own path between the two will be encouraged throughout. After some basics are nailed down, selections from the raga repertoire as well as jazz standards will be selected and practiced together as a group, with a goal of collectively finding and developing the elements that highlight cross-cultural musical dialogue.
