Berkeley's own jazz orchestra features the compositions of Harold Land, orchestrated for large ensemble by lone arranger Tony Corman. Harold Land is best known as a ferocious bebop tenor player and charter member of the Clifford Brown quintet, but in mid career he transformed himself into a Trane-influenced modernist, contributing a wonderful suite of compositions ranging from driving modal music to pastel impressionism. We think his compositions should be better known than they, so tonight we offer you a musical feast of these wonderful tunes, played by a 17-piece band of Bay Area jazz stalwarts....
