Guitarist Dave Mac Nab has been performing and composing music for almost two decades. Born in New York, raised in L.A., Mac Nab has been living in the San Francisco Bay area for ten years, drawing inspiration from the abundance of creative talent and the area's natural beauty. He’s worked with many of the Bay Area's finest musicians in a wide range of settings and styles. Fluent in the language of jazz, his playing also draws from rock, funk, latin, and blues influences, creating a soulful, intelligent sound with a strong rhythmic drive.
Mac Nab performed and recorded with Grammy winner Shelby Lynne, and has shared the stage a long list of notables including Sting, K.D. Lang, Matchbox 20, Ben Harper, Jeff Beck, Willie Nelson, Taj Mahal, Rikki Lee Jones, and Bon Jovi. Television and radio credits include Letterman, Leno, Conan, Kilborn, Rosie, Austin City Limits, Fresh Air, and E-Town, among others. He has toured with Bob Weir and his band Ratdog, and recorded with Charlie Musselwhite and Bryan McNight in addition to Ms. Lynne and Bob Weir. Mac Nab played lead guitar in the national touring productions of Rent, Elton John's AIDA, The Lion King, Wicked, Hairspray, and 42nd Street.
Drum maestro John Mader was born in Oakland, setting the foundation for his own style of "East Bay Grease." With a musician father and a mother who grew tired of having her furniture destroyed by the tap, tap, tapping of drum sticks, John was encouraged to play drums on a real kit at the age of five, after which the sticks never left his hands. At 17, Mader began his professional pursuit of music, joining Bay Area band The Uptones only a few years later, a group which toured the U.S. opening for Billy Idol, UB40, Oingo Boingo, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others, and went on to win a BAMMY. Soon Mader had offers to play with his own jazz heroes, which included Norbert Statchel, Julie Homi, Curtis Ohlson, and Frank Martin. He was one of the founding members of Dick Bright's 20-piece dance band, SRO. He then joined Ryan Downe as a member of his band, and they enjoyed two tours opening for The Who, on the Quadrophenia Tour, playing to 30,000 screaming fans in support of Ryan's album Hypocrite on Polygram.
Recently, in addition to performing with several Miles Davis band alumni, John Mader performed with Grammy winning artists Booker T. Jones, Steve Miller, Pat Benatar, Patti Austin, Angela Bofil, and Lenny Williams; toured extensively with Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley of the JB’s (James Brown Horns, and Parliament Funkedelic’s "Horny Horns"), and performed with Miguel Migs, The Family Stone, and others. You can hear his grooves on Patti Austin’s release, In and Out of Love, and Pee Wee Ellis’ European releases A Mighty Love and Live and Funky. In his “spare time” Mader has also played drums for several Tony Award winning musicals including The Lion King, Rent, Mamma Mia, and the world premiere of Wicked.
Bassist/composer Sascha Jacobsen hails from a musical family, going as far back as his great, great, great, great-grandfather, who was a bassist for the Moscow Opera. His mentors have included Michael and James Finley, John Brecher, Nico Abondolo, and Dennis Trembly, as well as Wolfgang Guttler and Shinji Eshima. He now performs on the electric bass, fretless electric, string bass, baby bass, and cello.
Jacobsen performed as principal bass with the Santa Cruz Symphony and the American Musical Theatre in San Jose, and as a section member of the Monterey Symphony and the Sarasota Opera. He performed on the world premier production of Martin Fame Becomes Me, recorded on the new cast album of A Chorus Line, and has toured the world with the Argentine Tango group, Trio Garufa. He is a founding member of Classical Revolution, and the Musical Art Quintet, which performs his original works. His jazz group, the Sascha Jacobsen Quintet, released its premier CD Outer Sunset, in 2002, which Double Bassist magazine declared, "shines a light on Jazz that it hasn't basked in for years." He has served on the faculty at Laney College and the Sequoia Chamber Music Festival, coaches at SF School of Arts, and has played venues as varied as S.F.‘s Davies Symphony Hall (with Diana Krall) to small jazz clubs and Tango "milongas". He is in demand as a musician and composer, with new commissions being sought by artists, playwrights, and directors each year.
