LISA ENGELKEN is a fearless singer with a daunting stage presence. Classically & theatrically trained, this Kansas-born straight shooter wields an acrobatic three-octave range that alternately locomotes and floats through tunes. Lisa now lives in San Francisco and has produced & arranged her jazz vocal releases Little Warrior (Top 10 Jazz Releases of 2013) and Caravan ("Best of 2010î" by the Jazz Journalists Association).

In addition to her work as a vocal coach, Lisa is a translator and teacher of Italian. She was awarded the SF Drama Critics Award for her portrayal as Yitzhak in the rock musical Hedwig & the Angry Inch, and has shared the stage with Tom Waits, John Cameron Mitchell, T-Bone Burnett and Yo la tengo.

DENNY BERTHIAUME,
piano, grew up outside Washington D.C. and Chicago. He is the only non-California native in the group although San Francisco is his home. He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Diane Schuur, Joe Williams, Ed Thigpen, Stan Getz, k.d.lang, and Joan Rivers. He recorded 4 albums as co-leader of the successful fusion group Solar Plexus. He has appeared at jazz festivals in Monterey, the Russian River, San Jose, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He was professor in literature and music at Foothill College in Los Altos, California (1970-2004) and a published playwright.
