I wanted to especially invite you to my Afro-Cuban Jazz Quintet’s special February 10 concert at the Clara Auditorium.  Afro-Cuban music has been a part of my musical DNA since as long as I can remember.  As an 8-year-old piano student, two of my favorite pieces to play were by the great Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona: Andalusia and Malaguena.  I still have the 60-year-old sheet music!!  

My first album, “Gone,” which hit #2 on the national JazzWeek charts, featured Ernie Watts and had two tunes you’ll hear at our February 10 concert: Mi Guajira and Libertango.

My second album, “NYC Sessions” which featured the late, great Phil Woods and Cuban drummer Ignacio Berroa, had three tunes you’ll also hear:  Lost Mambo, Dark Eyes and La Comparsa/Mi Montuno.  “NYC Sessions” received a coveted 4 STARS from DownBeat which named it one of “the best albums of 2015!”  In addition to these songs, you’ll hear Afro-Cuban arrangements of If I Loved You, Green Leaves of Summer, Cuban classics like Siboney, La Mulata Rumbera, and Mi Melodia Es Para Ti and, of course, some of my new originals!

The Quintet's concert is presented by The Midtown Vanguard Jazz Series at the Clara Auditorium, 2420 N St in midtown Sacramento. Best entrance to Clara Auditorium's parking lot is off of O Street, between 24th and 25th.  SEE YOU THERE!
