The Front Porch Pandemic Jazz Jam at Private Home

Hello friends and neighbors,

Every Thursday we have the Front Porch Pandemic Jazz Jam on the front patio of a private home in the 5600 block of Bloch St. San Diego (University City) 92122. This is a neighborhood event that is open to all jazz lovers. With the switch to standard time, we now start around 4:00 and end by 6:00.

It is our intention to continue doing this every Thursday for the foreseeable future, depending of course on this damn pandemic.

Most weeks there will be 5 of us (the original 3, +1, +1):

Unfortunately this is probably as large as the group can get and still follow current physical distancing guidelines but we will have occasional guest artists.

The music we play is classic jazz and swing from the Great American Songbook along with some Latin styles like bossa novas. Many of the songs are classics by composers and musicians like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Stan Getz and more.

Once you see us, it’s obvious we love to play jazz and we really do appreciate having an audience. In addition to neighbors and locals, some folks drive over, park on the street and listen from their car. Many people bring chairs, sit in the fresh air, soak up the breeze and listen for awhile. There’s plenty of room on the sidewalks and edge of the street although there still is some vehicle traffic. Some folks have even been bringing wine and a picnic. It’s all cool. If it’s happy hour for you, then BYOB but be discrete and save some for the band!

Lastly and most importantly, please observe physical distancing guidelines, wear a mask when appropriate and be respectful of others and the neighborhood.
