Mel Martin All-Star Big Band with vocalist Jamie Davis at Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society

Mel Martin has made a commitment to forming a swinging, “in-your-face”, volatile big band in the early 90’s when he was contacted by jazz greats Benny Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Charles Mingus’ Epitaph and Joe Henderson to help them put together high-level big bands for Bay Area performances. The repertoire of the Mel Martin All-Star Big Band consists of new arrangements of many standards in addition to music by Count Basie, Benny Carter, Jimmy Heath, Joe Henderson, Gerry Mulligan plu new arrangements of Mel’s original compositions.

Jamie Davis holds a position amongst the pantheon of great male vocalists with a full deep baritone voice that has been paired with some of the world’s most famous talent. Davis was named the ‘chocolate baritone’ after his performance in London with the BBC’s 64 piece Orchestra and Big Band. Legendary for its intimate concert room and 180 degree ocean views, it is 40 minutes from downtown San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Tickets at the door at 3 pm. Music starts at 4:30, goes to 7:30 with intermission. Open to the public with priority seating for members. Buffet and drinks available.
