Raised from the fires of Ferguson, Missouri, and schooled in the straight-ahead jazz tradition at the New School in New York, Keyon is one of the worldâs most sought-after, emotionally electric young trumpeters on the scene.
Keyonâs friend Robert Glasper recruited him to play in Don Cheadleâs great Miles Davis movie âMiles Aheadâ, which garnered him a Grammy. Just as Miles Davis broke down musical boundaries, Keyon uses his prodigious jazz chops to blow down all musical genre barriers. He has been featured on over 100 albums ranging from jazz, R&B, hip-hop, gospel and blues. He has toured and recorded with some of the worldâs best artists, including Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Beyonce, Robert Glasper, Prince, Common, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, Rihanna, Gregory Porter, Andre Crouch, DâAngelo, 50 Cent and LL Cool J to name a few. He was an integral part of 2x Grammy winning album âBlack Summerâs Nightâ by R&B icon Maxwell.
Keyon is fast becoming a star solo artist in his own right. Heâs not simply a musician, but also a magician: A âmugicianâ, a notion evoked by director Don Cheadle when describing the trumpeterâs spellbinding performance style. Keyonâs latest studio album, âThe Mugicianâ, inspired by the Ferguson events examines our troubled times through a far wider lens than any one tragedy. Sweeping and cinematic, the music draws on and obliterates the boundaries between jazz, classical, hip-hop, rock and blues to create something uniquely modern, unmistakably American, and triumphantly cohesive â thanks to Harroldâs virtuosic skill as a trumpeter and songwriter, and his relentless optimistic belief in brighter days to come.
Hailing from Los Angeles, Alex Isley comes from a musically-rich and versatile family. Her maternal grandmother was an opera singer, and began classically-training Alex at age 12, while her father, Ernie, and his brothers, are collectively the R&B/Funk pioneers, The Isley Brothers.
Alex has collaborated with an array of artists, from Terrace Martin to Moses Sumney to Kendrick Lamar; she sang vocals on Lamarâs 2016 Grammy-winning, âThese Wallsâ. Sheâs also featured on PJ Mortonâs âThe Piano Albumâ (on âHow Deep Is Your Loveâ as a duet with Morton).
In November 2019, Alex and producer, Jack Dine, released a joint EP entitled âWiltonâ. They followed with their singles, âGoneâ, âGood & Plentyâ with Masego, and âMineâ. In 2020, Alex performed her own NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.
