George Brooks, Kala Ramnath, With Utsav Lal at Sf Swedenborgian Church

• George Brooks is a prolific and diverse Grammy-nominated reed player and composer who toured with icons of R&B, jazz, and pop music as diverse as Etta James, Sonny Rhodes, Anthony Braxton, The Temptations, The Four Tops, John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain. He is widely acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz, blues, and Indian classical music. Brooks is a frequent headliner at concerts in India where his fusion style has proven widely popular. • Violinist Kala Ramnath, from a 7-generation violin dynasty, regularly forges musical alliances with her "singing violin" in jazz, traditional African as well as Western Classical genres. Her contributions feature in Hollywood soundtracks (“Blood Diamond” among others) and Grammy-winning albums (Kronos Quartet’s “50 for the Future.”) She has performed at prestigious stages such as the Sydney Opera House, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Paris’ Theatre de la Ville, and the Edinburgh Music Festival in Scotland. • Award winning raga pianist Utsav Lal, has released 6 albums, was named a Young Steinway Artist by Steinway and Sons, earned a bachelors in Jazz from the Royal Conservatory of Scotland and a Masters in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory of Music, and has won wide praise for his “Ragas to Reels” concert tours that bring together both Traditional Irish and Indian music in piano and flute combination. ...

The venue is a U.S. National Historic Landmark Arts & Crafts church and garden which opened in 1895. Its handmade chairs are the inspiration for "Mission Style" furniture of the early 20th century in America. The small candle-lit venue with working fireplace only fits about 100 people.
