Trumpet sensation Maurice โMobettaโ Brown orbits simultaneously through three worlds: contemporary jazz, blues-rock, and cutting-edge hip hop. Maurice is a mastermind as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and producer. When Maurice picks up his horn, his soulful melodies soar into a rarefied space that uniquely marries be-bop to hip-hop and rock, producing his own distinctive sound.
The Chicago area native won the national Miles Davis Trumpet Competition as a teenager, followed by a move to Louisiana to study under legendary clarinetist Alvin Batiste. His critically acclaimed debut, โHIP TO BOPโ, recorded in New Orleans, foreshadowed Brownโs unique talent for creating fresh bop-inflected jazz with an urban pulse. Hurricane Katrina forced Maurice to relocate, taking his horn to New York where he established himself by recording with Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, Macy Gray, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lettuce and The Roots. ...

His second album, โTHE CYCLE OF LOVEโ was named by NPR and the Huffington Post as one of the best records of the year. Brown embraced his be-bop roots with hip hop hooks and laid raw his dogged insistence on charting his own musical course after a life uprooted post-Katrina. Maurice was then invited to join the newly formed Tedeschi-Trucks band where he won a Grammy for his horn arrangements on the bandโs debut album, โRevelatorโ. His trumpet was a wailing counterpoint to Derek Truckโs searing guitar wizardry and became a staple of TTB sound.
Brownโs immersion into hip hop as musician/producer/lyricist culminated into the 2014 release of โMAURICE vs. MOBETTAโ. This groundbreaking alter-ego album remixed The Cycle of Love with fresh and innovative hip hop beats. Brownโs jazz roots were enhanced through the lens of a hip-hop perspective. Talib Kweli, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Consequence and Jean Graeโs spitting rhymes are met by Mobettaโs own, while his trumpet circles effortlessly throughout every track.
Brown left TTB to reignite his solo career as a musician/producer, setting up a second home in Los Angeles while performing internationally and producing tracks for Talib, Omar and Prodigy. Mauriceโs third album โThe Moodโ mixed his instinctive jazz roots, soulful melodies and vocals, including the politically charged Stand Up, with guest artist Kweli and Maurice trading vocals powered by his potent trumpet.
In 2018, Maurice joined Grammy award-winning superstar Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals on their worldwide tours. He also performed on Ramsey Lewis and Kenny Garrettโs recent albums, while making his Broadway debut with Dave Chappelle along with .Paak and bassist extraordinaire, Thundercat. Maurice partnered with jazz megastar Kamasi Washington for his run of sold-out shows at Hollywood Bowl, Barclayโs Center and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Most recently, Maurice composed the horn arrangements on Grammy award-winning rapper Logicโs latest album. He has also appeared on the Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel, The Daily Show and The Colbert Show.
The Maurice โMobettaโ Brown sound has become mainstream as he charts his own musical course with constant evolution, crossover fluidity, coupled with an intuitive vision that lights a fire under traditional jazz, adds sonic brass to rock โnโ roll and creatively pushes the production envelope in hip hop.
Soft spoken by nature, South Florida-bred ROOSEVELT COLLIER does his hollering on the pedal steel guitar. Brought up in the โsacred steelโ tradition of the House of God Church, Roosevelt built his reputation alongside his uncles and cousins in The Lee Boys, known for their spirited, soul-shaking live performances. Seated front and center, โThe Dr.โ leaves an indelible mark on listeners, flooring audiences with his lightning-fast slide work on the pedal steel.
At festivals, he is a regular โArtist at Large,โ performing alongside many of musicโs most prestigious acts, from the Allman Brothers, Tedeschi-Trucks, Los Lobos , the Del McCoury Band and countless others. In 2017, Roosevelt debuted his new project Bokantรฉ โ a โWorld Music All-Star Bandโ created by Snarky Puppy founder Michael League and featuring the vocals of Malika Tirolien.
As a bandleader, Roosevelt leads his world famous โget-downsโ featuring a mixture of โsuperstars and church folkโ, his own โJimi Hendrix Experimentโ-style all-star trio, and in 2018 has released the long-awaited Roosevelt Collier debut record, featuring an incredible mixture of blues, gospel, rock, and funk all rolled up by producer and bandmate Michael League.
Dywane Thomas, Jr. also known as MonoNeon, is an American bassist and experimental musician and native of Memphis, Tennessee. He is known for his presence on YouTube playing bass guitar and known for being one of the last people to work with Prince. Thomas is a Grammy Award-winning artist, for his participation on the 2020 NAS studio album Kingโs Disease.
While Thomas is right-handed, he plays left-handed upside down on a right-handed bass guitar, which allows him to use heavy string bending on the upper strings. Thomasโ slapping style/technique is unique because he is executing everything upside-down, but he still uses the thumb for slaps and fingers for pops. He also uses fingers and palm muting to create a warm, muffled timbre and have a little more control over the length of notes. In a free/improvisational setting, listeners may hear the use of Indian melodic inflections/embellishments in his playing, including the use of gamakas. Another attribute in Thomasโ playing style is the use of randomness and personal mistakes in performance, eventually moving the mistakes from meaningless to meaningful. Thomasโ overall playing style on bass can be described as โfunky with unusual characteristicsโ. Even musicians like Marcus Miller have noticed his playing style. His musical background is heavily influenced by southern soul, blues and funk. In a Bass Player magazine interview, Miller mentioned Thomas as one of several โyoung bad catsโ he has met on the scene.
In 2009, Thomas was featured on the GospelChops Bass Sessionz Vol.1 project with Andrew Gouche, Hadrien Feraud, Damian Erskine, Janek Gwizdala, Anthony Nembhard, and Robert โBubbyโ Lewis. In 2010, Thomas released several solo albums, including Aleatorick and Indeterminacy. Also in 2010, Thomas played bass on the Libra Scale album by Grammy Award-winning artist Ne-Yo, and the album Directions by Forest Won with Georgia Anne Muldrow. In 2012, Thomas joined David Fiuczynski and Planet Microjam. Also in 2012, he released his solo avant-garde album, Down-to-Earth Art as MonoNeon. In early 2013, Thomas released an album called Southern Visionary under the pseudonym MonoNeon. He also released an album entitled Uncle Curtis Answered The Lobster Telephone. MonoNeon performed with Sheri Jones-Moffett (2010 Grammy nominee) at the Recording Academy Chapter 40th Anniversary Celebration at Levitt Shell. MonoNeon teamed up with producer Kriswontwo to release an EP called WEON. July 2014, MonoNeon made his debut performance as the bassist for Screaming Headless Torsos at Jalisco Jazz Festival in Mexico.
