"Mission Rebel No.1: Looking for Reverend Jesse James" is a richly-layered production created by David James (Michael Franti, Afrofunk Experience, The Coup). Inspired by a youth empowerment organization founded by his late father, Mission Rebel No.1 is a musical exploration into the complicated life and radical times of the Rev. Jesse James. This newly commissioned work brings together original compositions by David James, along with archival audio, photographs, and news clips about the “groovy rebellion” of Black and Latino youth in the Mission District of the 1960’s-70’s.
