Sam Bevan Quartet at Bird & Beckett Books and Records

Seven years on since departing San Francisco for NYC, bassist Sam Bevan passes back through town to play a few dates, including this one at Bird & Beckett. Bevan is able to canvas a large musical landscape where jazz, funk, r&b, folk and Afro-Cuban disciplines joyously intermingle. His sound is in response to the history of modern jazz, yet it’s his composer’s ear which informs his overall concept. We’re excited to have Sam back for a visit in the company of three fantastic local colleagues and long-time friends, saxophonist Howard Wiley, pianist Maya Kronfeld and drummer Eric Garland. Sam moved to New York City in 2016, where he’s continued his career apace. We see he’s due at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Dizzy’s Club on August 30th with Dred Scott’s Pacific Jazz combo alongside tenor player Kenny Brooks and drummer Diego Voglino.
