The late organist Jimmy Smith created a sound that is indelibly associated with burning jazz and hot grooves. The jazz organ trio format is, arguably, his invention, and every organist since he burst on the scene in the early 1950s acknowledges his influence. Globetrotting drummer, and SJW favorite Akira Tana loves jazz organ, and he’s bringing one of his favorite Jimmy Smith-inspired groups from Osaka to SJW, so he can indulge in great grooves. Organist Atsuko Hashimoto is an award-winning jazz artist in Japan, and her amazing playing honors the great Smith, but blazes a unique trail as well. With a fantastic saxophonist and guitarist in the band, you expect echoes of the great organ groups of Charles Earland, “Groove” Holmes, Jack McDuff, and many others. Bay Area favorite vocalist Kenny Washington rounds out this hot lineup!...
