Anat Cohen’s enthralling clarinet and saxophone artistry has dazzled the jazz world ever since she arrived on the New York scene just over ten years ago from her hometown of Tel Aviv, via Berkelee College in Boston. Exploring and mastering multiple styles—such as Brazilian choro, traditional jazz, Afro-Cuban, tango, klezmer, and others—earned her a reputation as an adventurous player, unafraid to take risks in any situation. With her own compositions and with even her affectionate tribute to Benny Goodman, the King of Swing, her abandon is no less evident. The Boston Globe reports, “The most interesting clarinetist of her generation, [she] played with great physicality—lurching, thrusting, blowing at length with eyes closed and head down—but at the heart of her performance was a commitment to enjoy herself. . . . she had the audience in her palm.”...
