A pianist, composer, six-time Grammy and three-time Latin Grammy award-winner, Chucho Valdés is the son of piano legend Bebo Valdés and co-founded of Irakere, Cuba's first “supergroup,” in the early '70s. By itself, his contribution to the legacy of Irakere represents a brilliant milestone of innovative achievement. And yet, as an artist, he continues to scale new artistic heights. Chucho's sound is a rich mélange of Afro-Cuban dance rhythms and jazz improvisation embued with earthy soulfulness, making occasional, brief excursions into the classical world.
