Bay Area–raised educator and percussionist Jaz Sawyer explores Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln’s Freedom Now Suite. The 1960 work with lyrics by Oscar Brown Jr. was inspired by the civil rights movement. Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Jazzmeia Horn will perform alongside Sawyer.
