Khalil Shaheed and the Mo'Rockin Project at Stanford Jazz Festival

Trumpeter Khalil Shaheed’s Mo’Rockin Project combines funky jazz improvisation with traditional Arabic and North African instruments for a result that “conjures up how Marvin Gaye might have sounded fronting Abdullah Ibrahim’s band” (East Bay Express). Despite the surface differences between the musical traditions they represent, Shaheed and Moroccan-born multi-instrumentalist Yassir Chadly recognize that great music, wherever it’s from, can fortify the soul and bring people together. The Mo’Rockin Project, a septet co-led by Shaheed and Chadly, does just that.
