Louis Hayes’ Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band pays tribute to the music of the great Cannonball Adderley Quintet, one of the most popular jazz groups of the ’60s and early ’70s. Cannonball’s quintet was that rare jazz ensemble to cross over into pop music territory with a hit single, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. A former member of the original Adderley Quintet, Hayes’ muscular style of hard bop drumming has provided the rhythmic drive for a long line of jazz royalty that includes Horace Silver, John Coltrane, and Oscar Peterson. The current Cannonball Legacy Band line up features the top talents of Vincent Herring on alto saxophone, and Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Rick Germanson, on piano, and Dezron Douglas on bass.
