Nir Felder Quartet at Kuumbwa Jazz Center

Although guitarist Nir Felder played in rock bands as a teen, he also spent hours studying jazz. Given his upbringing, it is just as easy to identify John Coltrane in his playing, as it is to hear Jimi Hendrix. A full scholarship to Berklee led to notable gigs with Esperanza Spalding and Terry Lynne Carrington (whose album on which Felder performed won a Grammy in 2013). His first album as a bandleader, Golden Age, features compositions dealing with themes of political, cultural and technological upheaval, blurring the lines between the jazz, rock, hip-hop and pop.
