Pianist Tigran Hamasyan embarked on his musical journey at the age of three in his native Armenia. Quickly garnering momentum throughout European jazz festivals, Hamasyan won the prestigious 2006 Thelonious Monk Institute competition and has garnered accolades from Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau and other luminaries. Finding success as a bandleader and recording artist, 2013’s Shadow Theater was filled with atmospheric jazz improvisations, fused with the folkloric music of Armenia. Although trained as a classical and jazz musician, Hamasyan draws on a wide range of influences, including Armenian folk music, rock, beatbox, poetry, and more. He is now prepping his first release for Nonesuch Records entitled, Mockroot....
