Wallace Roney evokes the innovative style pioneered by Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis like no other trumpeter today. A contemporary extension of the hard bop tradition, Roney’s personal sound is engaging, thoughtful, and energetic. In his early days as a sideman, Roney was a welcome addition in the bands of drum legends Art Blakey, Tony Williams and Elvin Jones. His current group is powered by another highly-respected percussionist: Lenny White of Return to Forever fame, whose intrepid drumming underscores the deft musicianship of pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Rashaan Carter, and saxophonist Benjamin Solomon.
