The Hammond B3 organ enthralls with its liquid swoops, soulful vibrato and gospel overtones, and Wil Blades is carrying the torch of this bold instrument into the next generation. Rounding out his trio with Jeff Parker on guitar and Simon Lott on drums, Blades displays the virtuosity he’s acquired while touring and recording with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Donald Harrison, Charlie Hunter, Stanton Moore and others. The new album from the Wil Blades Trio, Fieldnotes, is full of syncopated grooves and fresh harmonies, resulting in a vital-sounding setting for the timeless B3.
