On February 8, the Menlo Park Library will host a free performance by the jazz chamber duo PoetryMusic, performing poems set to music.

Chris Lee plays the vibraphone, box drum & frame drum, and Colleen O’Brien plays the cello and wraps her deep resonant voice around the words. The lyrics are poems, everything from Maya Angelou to Robert Frost to Kerouac to Shakespeare. PoetryMusic is dedicated to performing poetry that has been set to music, music composed to poetry and poetry as a catalyst for free improvisation.

Chris Lee and Colleen O'Brien have been performing together for over 30 years. Growing up about a mile from each other in Portland, Oregon, they met in 1980 when Colleen asked Chris to play drums in a quartet she was forming. Along the way they have spent a year in Alaska where the vibe, cello and voice duo was born, recorded projects of original music, performed at the Mt. Hood jazz festival, the Festival Internacional de Jazz in San Miguel, Mexico, and have been featured on the Denver PBS series Artist Profile. ...
