The Claudia Quintet led by drummer/composer John Hollenbeck, features the estimable talents of clarinetist/tenor saxophonist Chris Speed, accordionist/pianist Red Wierenga, bassist Drew Gress, vibraphonist, Matt Moran; and on occasion, the addition of pianist Matt Mitchell. Together since 1997, the Claudia Quintet is a rarity in jazz: a long standing ensemble. Their music defies easy categorization, yet they have cultivated an accessible sound that encompasses both conventional and avant-garde structures. Their latest CD is called What Is the Beautiful?
