Saxophonist/clarinetist Harvey Wainapel (pronouced WINE-apple) and his quartet ALEGRITUDE will present a panorama of modern instrumental music from Brazil. Since 2000, Harvey has been spending 2-3 months each year exploring Brazil, performing, recording, and researching a wide variety of musical scenes there. The group ALEGRITUDE was born out of Wainapel’s desire to share the joy and beauty of the music he has discovered during these travels. This exciting group has performed at Yoshi’s Jazz Club, Stanford University, and the San Jose Jazz Festival, among other venues. Harvey has performed with McCoy Tyner, Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, and Joe Lovano, among many others.
