The San Francisco Jazz Quartet, is dedicated to the full range of jazz, with a focus on hard-swinging standards, hip originals, and the rarely heard hinterland between jazz and classical music. Their compelling shows range from straight-ahead concerts to elegant mixes of music and lecture – particularly regarding the genesis of jazz as a mix of European and African roots, and the innovative ways that jazz and classical have blended through the years, up to the present day. Nolan Gasser, piano; is the Architect of Pandora Radio’s Music Genome Project. Nolan received his Ph.D. in Musicology from Stanford University, where he’s been an Adjunct Professor in Medieval and Renaissance Music History; at the same time, he’s been playing jazz since his early teens. His compositions have been performed at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, La Salle Pleyel (Paris), and the Rose Bowl. Recent projects include his “Sonoma Overture” at the opening of the new Green Music Center in Sonoma County, “The Secret Garden,” commissioned by San Francisco Opera (premiered March 1, 2013).
Roger Glenn, vibes & reeds; is the son of famed jazz musician Tyree Glenn, who performed with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Cab Calloway. Roger entered the jazz scene at an early age and has worked and recorded with such legends as Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, Cal Tjader, Donald Byrd, and many others. Roger is equally at home on the vibes, the flute, the clarinet, and all saxes as well as percussion. His greatest passion is Latin Jazz, but his musical horizons extend broadly into jazz, classical, and popular styles.
Andy Eberhard, drums; is the son of famed pianist and music educator Carl Eberhard, and is fluent in a wide array of musical styles, emphasizing jazz and rock. He is a first call drummer in the SF Bay Area and has worked and toured with such legends as Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans, Joe Louis Walker, Bob Weir, Jerry Bergonzi, Barry Finnerty, Nat Adderley, The Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and many others.
Terry Miller, bass; is one of the most sought-after bassists in the SF Bay Area. He is equally proficient on the upright and the electric, playing all styles from jazz to rock classical, and beyond. He has performed and recorded with such marquee players as the Doobie Brothers, Prince, Willie Nelson, Steve Allen, and many others.
