Brazilian Big Band Blowout: Morchestra Feat. Vocalist Catia Machado at The Hall (aka Mildred Owen Concert Hall)

This 17-piece big band, composed of top Bay Area jazz musicians and led by guitarist and Lone Arranger Tony Corman, has been on the local jazz scene for over 10 years now. We’ve performed at Bach Dancing and Dynamite, Ashkenaz, La Pena, and the Jazzschool. We’ve appeared in concert at Pacifica Performances featuring vocalists Morning Nichols, Clairdee, and Nicolas Bearde. Our featured vocalist/percussionist tonight is Catia Machado, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is a warm presence and a versatile performer, and we are delighted to be able to bring her to you.

Tonight, we devote ourselves mostly to MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), Brazilian music from the 70s and 80s. There’s a wealth of wonderful songs from that time, and I hope we can turn you on to some music you might not have heard before. We also have lots of bossa nova and samba for you, and some very cool rhythms you might not be familiar with: baiao and xote. The arrangements are original, you won’t hear them anywhere else!...
