If you have not heard Gregory Porter on KCSM nor seen him at Yoshi’s, you are in for a wonderful surprise. Inspired by Nat “King” Cole, Joe Williams and Donny Hathaway, Porter has his own inimitable voice, filled with warmth and emotion. Nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for his very first CD, “Water,” he received another nomination for his performance on “Be Good” in 2012. Downbeat magazine calls him “A major jazz talent.” In January, 2013, readers named him Best New Jazz Vocalist in JazzTimes magazine.
