Octobop embodies the early days of West Coast Jazz when new ideas, harmonies, ensemble playing and great improvisation were the staples of a strong band. By performing and promoting the music that began with The Birth of the Cool -- and the innovations of Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Shorty Rogers, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper, Dave Pell, Jimmy Guiffre, and Howard Rumsey among others—Octobop makes cool jazz hot once again. The group is comprised of eight multi-instrumentalists, Geoff Roach, Jack Conway, Matt Kesner, Randy Smith, Jon Schermer, Brian Brickhouse, Dave Casini, and Roddy Magallanes. Their third CD After Dark was number 35 on the national jazz charts at JazzWeek, and they have played at multiple festivals and events in California, including Summer Fest.
