Guitarist Russell Malone is described by Carter as “a quietly dazzling guitarist whose inclusion in the Golden Striker Trio ensures an elegant result.” New York Times says, “Malone is one of the savviest and most sure-footed jazz guitarists of our era, who can range from blues to sophisticated jazz harmonies." Russell’s lyrical work has projected him into the mainstream of jazz guitar. A dazzling technique, that can erupt at will and a wealth of melodic, mellow ballad material, shows an extraordinary skill across the six strings. His interpretations stir the imagination while igniting the soul.

Pianist Donald Vega, who was classically-trained in his native Nicaragua, came to Los Angeles at 14 and began learning the language of jazz from mentor Billy Higgins. After graduating from Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard he studied with piano great Kenny Barron. Ron Carter says, “Vega is one of the next great jazz piano voices.” Donald’s latest CD Spiritual Nature with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Lewis Nash explores the marriage of jazz, Latin and classical music; it confirms Carter’s prediction.
