About

Featuring the talents of pianist Adam Shulman, bassist Fred Randolph, saxophonist/flutist Evan Francis, and drummer Jon Arkin (along with the leader's trumpet and flugelhorn), the Ian Carey Quintet has built up a book packed with Carey's original compositions and arrangements of music by composers from Herbie Nichols to Neil Young. The Quintet released two acclaimed albums, Sink/Swim ("an exciting set of music with a heavy-hitting lineup" -Greg Bridges, KCSM), and Contextualizin' ("showcases not only Carey’s distinctive style, but also his compositional talent" -Cadence).
For this show, the group expands its palette by one, adding acclaimed saxophonist Kasey Knudsen, and will makes its Quintet+1 debut with an entirely new set of intricate compositions, plus adaptations of music by Ives and Stravinsky....
