The Napa Valley Jazz Society has scored another musical coup, bringing tenor sax man Scott Hamilton to Silo's Jazz Club this weekend as part of its ongoing Parlor Jazz series.
Hamilton, recognized as one of mainstream jazz's premier players, will be backed by pianist Larry Vuckovich, a nationally recognized artist in his own right. Vuckovich lives in Calistoga. Also accompanying Hamilton will be bassist Al Obidinski and drummer, Vince Lateano. Bay Area saxophone master Noel Jewkes will join Hamilton for a pair of sax duets.
Scott Hamilton has recorded more than 40 albums and partnered with such luminaries as Dave McKenna and Ruby Braff. He's known for his lush warm tone as well as his driving swing. Critic Leonard Feather wrote of Hamilton, "(He) came along at a time when his mainstream melodicism and swing, derived from (Coleman) Hawkins, (Ben) Webster and (Lester) Young, swam against the prevailing tide. His excellence enabled him to transcend trends and succeed as an individual."...
