About

971 marked the early stages of establishing Tierra with Rudy Salas on lead guitar and lead vocals, Rudy “Bub” Villa on saxophone, flute, and vocals, David Torres on key- boards, trumpet, flute, and synthesizer, Albert Bustillos on drums (soon replaced by Kenny Roman), and Steve Salas on lead vocals, bass guitar, and valve trombone. Conrad Lozano would eventually replace Steve Salas on bass guitar. Tierra started performing in 1972 and released their first album “TIERRA” in 1973 on 20th Century Records which eventually led to their big hit “Together” in 1980/81 on Boardwalk Records. The band was named “Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Group” by Billboard, Cashbox, Record World, and BRE (Black Radio Exclusive), being the first Hispanic musical act to have four songs on the National Charts and two songs simultaneously in the Top 100...
