For over twenty years, Die Langfristige Entwicklung des Universums has been one of Carl Ludwig Hübsch’s central band projects. Following the absence of trombonist Wolter Wierbos due to ill health, the project is now entering a new phase. Drummer Gerry Hemingway has already expanded the trio into a quartet in previous projects. A new trio version of Universe can now be heard at LOFT.

The musicians will play “hymns” of all kinds, drawing on a rich fund of pieces by Albert Mangelsdorff, Misha Mengelberg and Carl Ludwig Hübsch. Free space and precise specifications alternate and interpenetrate, improvisation becomes composition, composition becomes improvisation....

The music of the Die Langfristige Entwicklung des Universums is carried by the joy of playing and a good dose of humor, it is celebrated by musicians washed in all waters, who pay homage to the god of sound with tuba, voices, saxophone and drums.
In keeping with the Mangelsdorff theme, the CD For Albert, which is dedicated to the music of Albert Mangelsdorff and also features Wolter Wierbos, was released in June.

Hübsch’s Universum has played at the Umbrella Jazz Festival, Ann Arbor Jazz Festival, Bloody Monday Festival New York, Doek Festival Bimhuis Amsterdam, Just Music Festival Wiesbaden, Berlin Jazzwerkstatt Festival, Chili Jazz Festival Austria, Kania Jazz Festival Serbia and the Eurojazz Festival Le Mans, among others. Various radio productions have also been made, e.g. with SWR or Blue Lake Radio Wisconsin. The work of the group, originally conceived as a wind trio with Wolter Wierbos as the third member, has been released on six CDs and a DVD.
