Bobby West, a fifth-generation Louisianian, was destined for a life in music. At birth, the doctor remarked that his exceptionally long fingers meant he’d either become a pianist or a pickpocket. Luckily for us, he chose the piano. Recognized as a prodigy by age six, he was already playing Mozart by eight. During the Great Migration, Bobby’s family relocated to South Central Los Angeles, where he grew up immersed in the vibrant jazz culture of Central Avenue. Inspired by piano legends such as Hampton Hawes and his mentor Horace Tapscott, he developed a distinctive style that would define his career. Bobby’s musical journey took him from Leimert Park’s iconic World Stage to stages across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In 2021, Bobby released his critically acclaimed debut album, Leimert Park After Dark, followed by Big Trippin’ in 2023. Both albums reached the Top 20 on the jazz charts and the Top 10 on the roots charts, cementing Bobby West’s place as a global jazz powerhouse....
