Over the years, we've earned a stellar reputation for our coziness, great acoustics and high caliber music offerings; literary events, too. The shop is open noon to six Tuesday to Sunday, and morphs into a sweet little jazz listening room Friday and Saturday evenings, most Sundays in the late afternoon and scattered nights during the week. Check our website at birdbeckett.com for more insight and an events calendar.

Directions: Take BART to the Glen Park Station (one stop south of the 24th Street station, and one stop north of the Balboa Park Station). Muni stops within a block or two include the J-Church street car and bus lines 23, 35, 36, 44 and 52. Driving? We're fifteen minutes from downtown, and I-280 zips by the neighborhood coming and going from the City. -- From the Sunset District, take 7th Av south to Laguna Honda/Woodside & cross Portola Drive to descend via O'Shaughnessy Blvd to the bottom of Glen Canyon, where O'Shaughnessy pauses at a traffic light and becomes Bosworth; proceed half a dozen blocks to the next traffic light and turn left onto Diamond, then right onto Chenery. We're a half block up on the right. -- From Market Street, take Church Street south 'til it ends at 30th Street, then jog left and jog right onto Chenery; proceed go eight blocks or so 'til you get to the little business district and you'll spot us on the left side of the street. -- From the Mission District, take San Jose Blvd. through the "Bernal Cut" and hop off at Wilder Street. At the bottom of the block, you'll turn right on Diamond and right on Chenery and you're here. -- From 19th Avenue, turn left on Sloat, cross Junipero Serra into St. Francis Woods, turn right onto Santa Clara past Joe Henderson's old house; Santa Clara turns into Monterey Blvd and goes a mile or so, dropping you into Glen Park on Diamond Street. Go two blocks and turn right on Chenery, and you're here. From Paris, Tokyo or Havana, fly into SFO and hop BART to the Glen Park Station and walk the last two blocks. Same deal if you fly into OAK. Oh, and from the East Bay, whether by the Bay Bridge or the San Mateo Bridge take 101 and then I-280 South. Take the Monterey Blvd. exit and make a hairpin turn to the right at the end of the off ramp, then bear left into the neighborhood onto Diamond Street, go two blocks and turn right on Chenery. From I-280 North, take the San Jose Blvd. exit, make a quick hard right on Rousseau, right again on Bosworth, then under the freeway and right onto Diamond, then right onto Chenery and head a half block up to the store. There's ample parking in this quiet neighborhood replete with several great restaurants, a terrific bar and the City's most amazing jazz club. There really is jazz near you! Do remember to provision yourself if you want something to sip while you listen to the amazing musicians that cross our stage -- the fancy market on Diamond and the corner store (at the corner) both close at 8pm, so be advised! The bar is open late, and has a civilized off-sale license, plus great cameraderie if you pause to sip something there, which we heartily endorse. Tell Shane we sent you!
