Virtuosic chanteuse Karina Denike draws from 1930s torch songs, Motown soul, and blue beat to interpret rare gems of yesteryear. Schooled by East Bay jazz legends Jon Hendricks, Bobby McFerrin and Fred Marshall, her acclaimed solo release Under Glass was named one of KQED's Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2015.
Partnering with Denike is Vic Wong, a jazz guitarist, double-bassist, tenor banjoist and maker who specializes in early jazz styles of the '30s and '40s. Vic hosts a popular music community residency in SF and also performs with Franco Nero and the Alcatraz Islanders.
These Northern California natives perform as a duo, and as core members of one of San Francisco's most exciting musical groups, The Cottontails. Also featuring Michael McIntosh on piano, Joe Kyle Jr. on Bass, and Tom Griesser on reeds, The Cottontails play 20-30's jazz, to classic '40s swing, boogie woogie to jump blues and 60's ska to rare R&B soul. They have been presented by SF Jazz, Flower Piano, SF City Hall, Bimbo's 365 Club and Yoshi's, and toured Northern California, New York City, Tokyo, England and Germany.
